Theatre Group Workshops

Year 3 and 4 - Storytelling

On a cold Tuesday and Wednesday near the beginning of term, two actors from the Multi-story Theatre Group visited the school to run drama and acting workshops with the children in KS2. These workshops were arranged by Miss Simmonds and Mr Mockridge to help the children with their English work - and because they were going to be fun!

The children began by learning how to grab the attention of the audience. Each group came up with something original, ranging from big actions (such as running round, tickling the audience) to formal introductions ("Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, ...") The children worked on how to bring storytelling to the stage.

The criteria for the task was to produce 1 minute of drama which would grab the audience's attention, was set in the past, present or future, and ended on a cliffhanger - asking the audience to consider what might happen next. All of the children were engaged fully with this task, were confident enough to show their work and were able to evaluate each other's performance. The children fully enjoyed the hour and a half which seemed to whizz by - so much so that they still keep asking me, "When are we going to finish our play?"

But that's another story!

Below - some photos from the workshops. Can you you work out what's going on?
