"The children were enthralled with the physicality of the characters - changes of voice, facial expressions, body gesture – and the repetition of parts and a familiar structure to the tale. Fantastic feedback from the children and staff on all aspects of the production – thoroughly enjoyed." West Croft Juniors, Bideford
"The children had to use their imaginations – I thought it was your best yet." Pilton Community College, Barnstaple
"The storytelling was vivid and the impact brilliant. Children were enthralled. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!" Harbertonford Primary School
There was a good turn out to see multi story’s latest children’s production, Poor Jack. Word has obviously spread about the multi talents of actors Gill Nathanson and Bill Buffery who have worked together for many years, establishing a great rapport with their audiences.
This production was created with the over 5 year olds in mind, with the emphasis on Jack returning home frequently to tell his mother about his adventures on the road, requiring concentration on the story ... but multi story’s music and hallmark physicality won them over.
Bill played Jack throughout, while Gill multi-roled with amazing speed, one minute playing Jack’s mother, and the next a fierce Farmer’s wife, a monstrous giant, a little hairy man, not to mention a swan – oh, and a Lady in Green!
There was a collective gasp of appreciation when Jack “ dived ” into the moat, and laughter as the fierce Farmer’s Wife suddenly harnessed him to the plough, with smiles all round when Jack finally restored the castle of grey to its former golden glory.
Poor Jack was a delightful re-working of a Romany story included in Alan Garner’s collection of British Fairy Tales, and at fifty minutes was just the right length for a young children’s production.Julia Pattison, Pocklington Post
