Umberleigh Community Primary School

R&J4Ever

After weeks of hard work the day finally arrived for the production of R+J4Ever.  The children from Years 5 & 6 performed alongside pupils from Woolacombe Primary School, Pilton Community College and the North Devon College.

The performances took place at the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe on Wednesday, 16th March at 1.30 and 7 p.m.  Those of us who attended were treated to a magical performance.

A stunningly dramatic stage set depicted the story of Romeo and Juliet and their feuding families in scenes from the past and the present which intertwined wonderfully to keep the audience riveted.  All the lighting and music was produced by the North Devon College pupils with fellow pupils acting out the roles of the ghostly white figures from the past.

The pupils from Pilton Community College were dressed in black and provided the modern version of the famous play including some rap music which they wrote and performed.  Some of their pupils also portrayed the Prince's peacekeepers.

Gill Nathanson played Mab - the maker of dreams and Bill Buffery played the Prince.

Mab's mob consisted of the Umberleigh children who wore red and depicted street urchins who supported the Capulet family and the Woolacombe children who wore yellow and represented the street urchins who supported the rival Montague family.

This was a wonderful opportunity for the children who all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Thank you to Mrs Hyland for making the whole thing possible and supporting the children throughout.

Waggle Dagger Rehearsals - R&J4Ever

The Years 5 & 6 children are taking part in a drama production known as Waggle Dagger which is based around the story of Romeo and Juliet.  The North Devon Theatres production team work with the youngsters using and extending their ideas to create their own version of the famous Shakespearean Play.

Bill Buffery and Gill Nathanson from the Multi Story Theatre came to Umberleigh Village Hall during February and March to work with our youngsters.  They then took their ideas and worked them into the production alongside 3 other North Devon Schools.

Here are the children trying out some expressive poses.
