'Tattercoats' is based on a traditional English tale that shares some features with the Cinderella story.
Tattercoats lives in a castle on an island in the middle of the sea. Her mother died when she was little, her grandfather neglects her and the cooks in the kitchen are mean. Only the old nurse is of any comfort. But then she makes friends with a boy who flies a kite and this makes her happy.
An invitation arrives announcing a Great Ball at which the Prince will chose a bride. Her Grandfather sails to the Palace but Tattercoats is left behind. The Kite-Boy flies her across the sea. She meets a young man who invites her to the Great Ball. There she discovers that this young man is the Prince. They dance together and he asks if she will let him join her on her journey.
Tattercoats is a 50 minute piece of story-telling theatre suitable for ages 5-11.
The tale is told by Tattercoats as she is now - an older and wiser person, still very keen on flying her kite! The production uses video animation, music and sound as well as the hallmark physicality that multi story audiences are used to.
The music for the production comes originally from Eastern countries - China to Indonesia - and this influence is reflected in the costumes and props.
